The two software companies Allplan and SCIA have announced the winners of the Ninth International User Contest with the motto “The Art of Structural Design”. They were looking for six challenging engineering projects characterized by originality, complexity and the innovative use of the Allplan Engineering and SCIA Engineer software packages. One Allplan user received the prize for the best BIM project.
The engineers from Pell Frischmann from the UK, BAS bvba from Belgium, BG Ingénieurs Conseils from Switzerland and Royal HaskoningDHV from the Netherlands won through among the 134 entries. For the first time, users were able to award a “people’s choice” prize and chose the the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion in London, by AECOM. A special prize for the best BIM project went to the Czech engineering office Building s.r.o., which deployed the planning method most convincingly in the design of an office building.
The Aviatica office building is the first construction project for a new neighborhood in Prague. In addition to the special construction form, it is characterized by use of the Open-BIM method, based on open standards and work processes. During the planning phase, for example, model data was exchanged between Allplan Engineering and SCIA Engineer in IFC format (Industry Foundation Classes). The completed model is now available for use in facility management processes.
“Excellent structures are created not least through the use of innovative products. In the case of the user contest, this means unique structures with the software from Allplan and SCIA. I am particularly pleased about the BIM special prize, which recognizes the importance of open standards and work processes during planning,” says Michael Koid, managing director of Allplan.
The winners of the contest will each receive prize money of 1,500 euros. In addition, all qualified project contributions have been collected in a volume with a print run of 5,000, which is also available as an ebook: books.scia.net/UC2015/files/assets/basic-html/index.html;
