Germany/Munich, March 8th, 2012 – Owing to legal requirements, companies are constantly being confronted with new challenges in terms of energy. The latest example is the planned introduction of Energy Management Systems based on DIN EN 50001. Beside this, the increasing cost of energy for the manufacturing industry is becoming an increasingly critical cost factor. In order to monitor energy consumption in an integrated manner and to identify cost saving potentials, three leading solution providers – Nemetschek Allplan (Allplan Allfa), Echelon (i.LON SmartServer & SmartMeter) and ITC (Energy Cockpit) – have decided to join forces: with their energy management system, companies will be in a position to manage and monitor their corporate energy requirements in an efficient manner. A joint pilot project has been launched at the same time.

“With intelligent energy management the potential for increasing profitability is huge. This is an area of increasing focus for customers of our facility management solutions. By merging the core expertise of three specialist providers, we can launch an entirely new and highly innovative approach for energy management systems on a corporate level,” said Peter Mehlstäubler, CEO Nemetschek Allplan GmbH.

“Nemetschek’s innovative solution turns buildings and facilities into smart buildings or smart facilities where energy consumption can be actively monitored and managed to reduce cost and carbon emissions,” said Varun Nagaraj, Senior Vice President Product Management and Marketing at Echelon. “This is yet another great example of a high-value application built on Echelon’s proven open standard, multi-application energy control networking platform.”

“By linking energy data and meter values with buildings and appliances as well as a customer’s actual energy costs, efficient energy management systems can now be implemented,” said Stefan Adler, CTO ITC AG. “By pooling the know-how of the leading standard solution providers in this field, companies are now in a position to implement the requirements for the optimization of energy consumption, even in complex scenarios.”

Energy accounting − energy controlling − energy management
By linking up the “Energy Cockpit” software, “i.LON SmartServer & SmartMeter” hardware and the Computer Aided Facility Management (CAFM) system “Allplan Allfa”, energy consumption can be measured and displayed per square meter of area and usage for buildings and other facilities in much the same way that fuel consumption is measured for automobiles.

The building automation technologies “iLON SmartServer & SmartMeter” record and control the energy consumption; the ITC software solution “Energy Cockpit” processes the data in real-time and displays it to the user. Allplan Allfa combines this technical data with area and occupancy information from a building model and manages the data centrally. This makes benchmarking and reporting possible not only at the level of a single consumer, but, aggregated, also per building and between different properties. Companies benefit from a meaningful decision-making basis for the responsible and sustainable use of energy as well as for savings potentials in operating costs.
