The student community of ALLPLAN users is growing significantly in Poland. The largest student user base is associated with Warsaw University of Technology. ALLPLAN software has been introduced to students principally through the “Implementation of BIM in Structural Design” and “BIM in Digital Construction” courses. The courses are optional and have become one of the most highly ranked courses in the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Warsaw University of Technology.
Implementation of BIM in Design of Structures
The aim of the course is to demonstrate the BIM process and how it is realized in a practical way. The course explains what needs and problems could arise in the design process and how to deal with them. The first part of the course is dedicated to learning the software. The students discuss their own project concept with a supervisor and afterwards realize the project. Students who successfully pass the course receive a certificate from their lecturer and can participate in a competition that is organized as part of the course.
Students' competition projects are evaluated based on four criteria: the level of complexity from the architectural point of view, the correctness of the engineering part, the presence of visualization aspects and the ability to present their own work. Highest credit is given to the projects with elements of non-traditional shapes, fully detailed and visualized correctly. One of the requirements of the course was to make all of the steps during the classes taking into account the teacher`s recommendations. The final step is to prepare and present their work to fellow students and a committee that consists of teachers from Warsaw University of Technology.
In 2016/2017, around 20 projects were considered for the competition. The winner was Magdalena Cegiełko with the “Housing estate” project.
In the 2017/2018 academic year, the competition was opened to other educational institutions as well and more than 30 projects were evaluated by a committee that consisted of teachers from Warsaw University of Technology. The projects were all made in ALLPLAN software and as a final step visualized in Lumion™.
The main prize was an invitation to the ALLPLAN Coach Summit in Munich. Anna Kaczmarczyk with her “pedestrian bridge” project was the winner and is now looking forward to going to Munich. Congratulations!
All the students have said that ALLPLAN helps them significantly in their studies and that they also use it for other courses, especially for courses in architecture. Additionally, many students do their diploma thesis using ALLPLAN software.
